Imelda Cortez is currently a middle school Spanish Language Arts teacher at Kelly Middle School and is the 4J Vice-President of her local, the Eugene Education Association. She began teaching in 2004 and spent 16 years as an elementary teacher before moving to middle school and returning to teach in the Spanish Immersion program. She enjoys helping students develop a sense of pride in their identities, as well as being a fierce advocate of equity for both educators and students. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, reading, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with her husband and three sons.
