On this date in 1871 a mob of nearly 500 people attacked and dragged Chinese Americans out of their homes whole others built gallows to hang the victims. This happened after a police officer was shot and killed, allegedly by a Chinese person. The police stood by and watched the crowd murder 18 innocent people which represented the largest mass lynching in the United States. Only 10 people were tried and none went to jail.
