George Floyd, Black Minneapolis man, murdered while gasping “I can’t breathe.” One police officer suffocated him with a knee to his neck, two other officers kneeled on his body to restrain him, while another stood by restraining onlookers. Following viral videos of the murder, worldwide protests erupted. Three of the officers were convicted of depriving Floyd of his civil rights while acting under government authority when they failed to give him medical aid and one officer was convicted on state murder and manslaughter charges. The world has responded with a racial justice reckoning that looks at all aspects of our society including schools.
