National American Indian Heritage Month recognizes the significant contributions of American Indians, also referred to as Native Americans.

  • Public Broadcasting System’s series We Shall Remain. This PBS miniseries and multi-media project showcases Native history as an essential part of American history. Five 90 minute documentaries, spanning 300 years, tell the story of pivotal moments in US history. Website includes teacher’s guides.
  • Notable Native People: 50 Indigenous Leaders, Dreamers and Changemakers from Past to Present by Adrienne Keene (Author) and Ciara Sana (Illustrator). An illustrated book profiling 50 notable American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian people, from NBA star Kyrie Irving of the Standing Rock Lakota to Wilma Mankiller, the first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation.
