In this online workshop for educators of color, we will be exploring themes of belonging and reclaiming our culture and background as a source of strength and empowerment. By exploring the words of others, including Clint Smith and Ilhan Omar, who have learned to harness the strength of their voice, we will learn to step into our identities and take up the space that we deserve.
Themes for exploration include: understanding power and belonging, unpacking misconceptions about our identities, discovering our intersecting identities, rehearsing our agency, and practicing empowered responses to institutional oppression.
During this workshop, participants will read, discuss, write, and rehearse ways to talk back, especially in spaces that attempt to silence us.
