Anniversary of the 1942 arrest of Fred Korematsu, a Japanese American who refused to evacuate during the Japanese Internment. The Northern California ACLU represented Korematsu in challenging the constitutionality of the Japanese Internment but the Ninth Circuit Court and the US Supreme Court ruled against him. In 1983, Korematsu’s case was re-opened and his conviction was overturned. Six states now celebrate Fred Korematsu Day on his birthday.
