On this date in 1811, allies of Tecumseh, a Shawnee Chief and leader of US expansion, led an attack on a US military force led by William Henry Harrison near Prophetstown. The Natives were outnumbered and outgunned and, after the defeat, Harrison burned the village to the ground. This led to Native resisters of expansion siding with the British.
