On this day in 1921, the state of Alabama adopted a state constitution that codified disenfranchising the Black vote, segregating schools and prohibiting interracial marriages. The pesky 14th Amendment caused them to hide these systems in “race-neutral’ language, but they actually instituted statewide trainings to make the systems work against Black Alabamans.
