Dean Juliette Derricotte and one of her students, Nina Johnson, were seriously injured in a hit and run accident. The Hamilton Memorial Hospital in Dalton, Georgia refused to care for them because they were Black. By the time they reached a hospital that would treat them (35 miles away), both were dead.
