In this book study, participants will discuss The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai. This is a fiction book: "Set against the backdrop of the Viet Nam war, The Mountains Sing tells an intimate, enveloping story of four generations of the Tran family, as seen through the eys of the matriarch, Tran Dieu Lan, and her granddaughter, Huong." Themes from this book will be relevant and thought-provoking in relation to the invasion of Ukraine.

OEA will provide copies of the print book to participants. Participants receiving a book from OEA must commit to attending at least 3 of the 4 live sessions. It is also recommended that participants access the audio book version. For help searching your local library for access to the audio book, please contact OEA staff member Kim Read at kim.read@oregoned.org

Please note: This is a grant-funded book study for educators who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. An all-member book study on The Mountains Sing will take place this summer. Registration for the all-member book study will open in May.
