In this 8-week foundational VLC, participants learn the core principles of trauma informed education and build their understanding of what trauma means, how it impacts the brain and learning, and what trauma informed education looks like. Participants will also learn about why self-care is so important to trauma informed education and educator well-being along with practical ideas for how to practice regular self-care. Each week, participants will read articles, watch videos, and complete an interactive activity to deepen their knowledge. This is an ideal learning experience for participants starting their trauma informed journey or who want to expand on foundational knowledge gained through webinars, workshops, or other one-time professional learning events. Participants will also build a sense of community as educators.

This VLC is available at no additional charge to all current OEA members. Most participation is asynchronous and can be completed at your convenience over the 8 weeks. To be successful in this VLC, plan on participating at least two to three hours a week. There will be live sessions once a week for lecture and discussion. Live sessions will be recorded for those unable to attend. Participants can earn PDUs or apply for one graduate credit from Western Oregon University.
